Vision

A New Zealand where no business is too small for good software.

Aotearium Ltd is a New Zealand software company. We build and run our own products for New Zealand’s small and medium businesses — the ones the software industry has priced and designed itself out of serving.

Mission

To help New Zealand’s small and medium businesses go digital, and thrive in the age of AI.

Small and medium businesses are most of the New Zealand economy and almost none of the software market. The result is a country where a café, a trades business or a small clinic runs on tools a decade behind the ones a large company takes for granted — not for lack of interest, but because enterprise software is priced per seat, sold by a rep, and takes a quarter to roll out.

The order matters. You cannot put AI on top of a paper stamp card. A business has to be producing data from its everyday work before AI has anything to work with, so digitising that everyday work comes first. That is the half we are building now — AI is what it earns you afterwards, and we would rather ship the foundation than the demo.

  1. Start where the business already is

No rip-and-replace, no three-month rollout. Digitisation has to begin with something the business already does every day, or it never gets adopted at all. If the owner cannot set it up in an afternoon, we have not finished designing it.

  2. AI that removes work, not AI that demos well

We add AI where it takes a real task off someone’s plate — reading the messy input, drafting the reply, finding the pattern in numbers nobody has time to look at. Where the honest answer is that a simple rule does the job, we ship the simple rule.

  3. We build it and we run it

We are not an agency and we do not take client work. Every solution here was designed, built and is operated by us, which means problems get fixed properly instead of filed in someone else’s backlog.

Solutions

Where the mission is already running.

Two so far. Each one started from something a New Zealand business was still doing by hand — stamps in a wallet, a phone call and a wait — and moved it onto a screen.

LoyalStash

Digital loyalty for local merchants

The problem
The paper stamp card is probably the most widely deployed piece of technology in New Zealand hospitality, and it loses its data every time it goes through a wash cycle. The merchant never finds out who came back.
The solution
A loyalty programme the owner sets up in an afternoon. Customers collect and redeem from their phone, and the merchant finally gets to see who is returning, and how often.

Daikuan

Mortgage clarity for New Zealand’s Chinese community

The problem
Working out what you can borrow meant a phone call, a wait, and a conversation in a second language — after which advisers, not the customer, decided who made contact.
The solution
The calculation in the customer’s own hands and own language, alongside a directory of licensed advisers. The customer picks who may contact them, and an adviser sees their details only after being picked.
